Artificial Intelligence and the Humanities: From Challenges to a Knowledge Revolution During the 10th Annual Scientific Conference of the College of Arts – Tikrit University

Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, President of Tikrit University, with the direct follow-up of Professor Dr. Marbad Saleh Dhamin, Dean of the College of Arts, and in the presence of the university’s vice presidents for scientific and administrative affairs and all members of the University Council, the activities of the 10th Annual Scientific Conference of the College of Arts commenced on the morning of Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Al-Khwarizmi Hall, Tikrit University, under the theme:

“Artificial Intelligence and the Social and Human Sciences – Challenges and Aspirations.”

In his opening remarks, Professor Dr. Hassan Hussein Ibrahim, Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, emphasized that holding this conference aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education’s vision to integrate modern technologies into academic research. He noted that artificial intelligence has become not merely an option but a scientific and societal necessity to advance research tools and enhance the capabilities of scholars—particularly in the rapidly evolving fields of social and human sciences.

For his part, Professor Dr. Marbad Saleh Dhamin, Dean of the College of Arts, stated that the tenth scientific conference marks a significant milestone in the college’s journey by highlighting AI as a driving force for renewal in humanistic and social research. He affirmed the college’s commitment to fostering a scientific environment that embraces innovation and remains open to emerging knowledge.

Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Atiyah Masaher Hamad, Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Conference, explained that the event witnessed broad participation from researchers representing various Iraqi universities. A total of 176 researchers presented 118 scientific papers across nine main themes, covering diverse disciplines including media studies, languages and literature, educational and social studies, political science, sustainable development, legal studies, geography, history, and economics.

The opening ceremony featured a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by the Iraqi national anthem and the Tikrit University anthem. This was succeeded by an introductory video about the university and another about artificial intelligence. Students from the College of Arts then presented a creative performance titled “Creativity is Our Motto”, followed by a theatrical piece entitled “The Civilizational Evolution of Humanity,” depicting the enduring relationship between science and humankind throughout history.Following the inaugural session, shields of appreciation and certificates of recognition were distributed to distinguished participants and supporting entities. The attendees then moved to the University’s Social Center to continue the conference’s scientific and discussion sessions, which featured broad academic participation and rich intellectual exchange.

 The conference activities are scheduled to continue on Thursday, October 23, 2025, as researchers present and discuss their studies in specialized sessions amid an engaging academic atmosphere and fruitful scientific discussions aimed at shaping new perspectives for integrating artificial intelligence into the fields of social and human sciences.
